How many Starlink satellites are in orbit?
As of , the time of the satellite data, CelesTrak's active list holds 11,143 active Starlink satellites, 67 percent of the 16,622 active satellites in our count. A Starlink satellite here is one whose catalogue name contains STARLINK.
Data: CelesTrak, its active list and satellite catalogue, read by our collector. The counts, bands, groups and the map are ours.
What this means
- Starlink is 67 percent of the active satellites in our count: 11,143 of 16,622.
- The 3 busiest 10 km altitude bands hold 82 percent of them: 460 to 470 km (4,613), 480 to 490 km (3,272) and 470 to 480 km (1,259).
- The largest inclination group is 53 degrees, with 5,105 satellites (46 percent), of 6 groups.
- 53 of the active Starlink satellites were launched in the 30 days to the data day (6 October 2026, included); in the 12 complete months before, an average of 260 a month are still active (from 107 to 351), so those 30 days are below that average.
- Active Starlink satellites: 11,143, against 11,143 in the previous build of this page (data as of 6 October 2026, 02:10 UTC), about the same.
- The launch day with the most active Starlink satellites is 15 November 2025, with 58.

- 67 percentShare of all active satellites in our count
- 53Launched in the 30 days to the data day (included) and still active

How high are the Starlink satellites?
Each satellite's mean altitude is worked out from its mean motion: the size of the orbit, less the Earth's equatorial radius. The chart groups them into bands of 10 km, from 140 to 580 km; 41 bands hold at least one satellite.

At which inclinations?
The inclination is the tilt of the orbit to the equator, from the satellite's own orbital elements, rounded to the nearest whole degree.
| Inclination (degrees, rounded) | Satellites | Share (percent) |
|---|---|---|
| 53 | 5,105 | 46 |

| 70 | 870 | 8 |

When were they launched?
The chart counts today's active Starlink satellites by the month they were launched, for the 24 months to the data time. It is not a count of all Starlink satellites launched in each month, because those since retired are not in it. The last month is not over.

Where is the fleet?
The positions are worked out from each satellite's orbital elements with the simple orbit model the live globe uses for its swarm (two-body motion with the main J2 drift), not with SGP4, so they are approximate. The map does not move after the page is built; the live globe shows the fleet moving.
How this page is made
- Source: CelesTrak's current orbital element sets for its active list, with each object's type, status and launch date from CelesTrak's satellite catalogue, read by our collector (CelesTrak's data is updated about every 2 hours, and our collector pauses as its usage policy asks). The data time is the time of that satellite data.
- A Starlink satellite is one whose catalogue name contains STARLINK. An active satellite is a catalogue satellite with a status of Operational, Partially operational, Backup or standby, Spare or Extended mission; the count is the same as on the satellite count page.
- Mean altitude: from the mean motion, as for the satellite count page's orbit groups (low Earth orbit is below 2,000 km there). Bands of 10 km and inclinations rounded to whole degrees are our choices; we do not say which shells SpaceX plans.
- The page is published only when the satellite data is less than 30 hours old, and only with at least 1,000 active Starlink satellites (a guard against a broken feed); otherwise the previous copy stays.
- In "What this means", within 15 percent of the number it is compared with counts as about the same. The launch pace compares a 30 day period with calendar months, counting only satellites still active. A finding that needs the previous build's numbers is left out when there are none.
- CelesTrak's usage policy covers how often data may be requested; it says nothing about publishing counts made from it, so that is not confirmed.

How many Starlink satellites are in orbit?
11,143 active ones as of 6 October 2026, 04:11 UTC, on CelesTrak's active list and our definition of active, which is 67 percent of all active satellites in our count.
How high do Starlink satellites fly?
The busiest 10 km band of mean altitude is 460 to 470 km, with 4,613 satellites. The fleet spans 140 to 580 km, counting satellites still being raised or lowered.
How many Starlink satellites were launched recently?
53 of the active ones were launched in the 30 days to 6 October 2026, that day included.
Does this page track a single satellite?
No. It counts the fleet. The live globe shows each satellite's position and its pass times over your place.
